January 25 is your last chance to tell Governor Hogan you oppose a pipeline under the Potomac!!. TransCanada’s reckless proposal to build a fracked-gas pipeline underneath the Potomac River is getting closer to approval, yet Governor Hogan has made no indication he plans to carry out a full, comprehensive review of the dangers that would come with the project.
Maryland just passed historic legislation to ban fracking. But now fracking is threatening our communities once again, with a proposed pipeline that would run under the Potomac River and threaten the drinking water of millions.
The Eastern Panhandle Pipeline Expansion would run fracked gas from Pennsylvania to West Virginia — the shortest and cheapest way they can — through Maryland under the Potomac River and the C&O canal through Hancock. The pipeline would enter Maryland northwest of Hancock and go under the Potomac River and the C&O Canal before terminating in West Virginia. It does nothing for Maryland — but it puts Maryland’s natural resources, and the drinking water of millions downstream, at risk.
Governor Hogan has the authority to stop this pipeline. He can direct the Maryland Department of the Environment to deny a special water quality certification under the Clean Water Act.
Tell Governor Hogan to reject the pipeline under the Potomac today!
