We need your help today to push our local legislators to sign on as co-sponsors to two pending pieces of critical healthcare legislation.
Prescription drugs are getting more expensive. During this legislative session, the Maryland Health Care for All! Coalition has proposed legislation that will help make expensive drugs more affordable in Maryland. WISE is part of this coalition. In order for the bills to be in the best position moving forward, we are asking you for one simple but incredibly important favor: please call/email your State Senator and State Delegates and ask them to co-sponsor these bills. Their support and co-sponsorship are incredibly important as it will increase the chances of the bill being passed into law. They need to hear from people like you that they should support these life-saving bills!
These bills propose additional measures to address the high cost of brand-name prescription drugs. The first will be to prohibit “gag rules” that prevent pharmacists from telling customers cheaper ways to get their drugs. Senator Kathy Klausmeier and Delegate Eric Bromwell are the lead sponsors for this measure (the Pharmacy Manager Benefit (PBM or “gag rule”) bill). The second is to create a drug cost review commission that would establish transparency and reasonable costs for critical life saving drugs to maximize the public health benefit in Maryland. Senator Joan Carter Conway and Delegate Joseline Peña-Melnyk are our lead sponsors (on Prescription Drug Transparency Commission or “transparency” bill) and the Legislative Black Caucus, led by Delegate Cheryl Glenn have put this issue at the top of their agenda! This issue is a priority issue for WISE for the 2018 session as well.
Please email Delegate Sid Saab, firstname.lastname@example.org, and Senator Ed Reilly, email@example.com, and ask them to please consider signing on as co-sponsors to these TWO critical pieces of legislation, if you live in District 33. If you are outside of District 33 and need to find your State Senator’s and State Delegates’ contact information, go to mdelect.net
When you contact your their offices, if you have a personal story about high costs for prescription drugs, please share it as well. Tell them we need this because the high cost of prescription drugs is making it hard for us all to get the health care we need.
Thank you and make sure to email or call today. Healthcare is a basic human right and we need your help in defending that right today!!!!
