The Giffords Law Center has recently studied violence reduction programs around the country and found that funding such evidence-based programs effectively reduces gun violence in impacted communities, like Baltimore. HB 432, a bill to fund these life-saving, cost-effective programs, needs your support right now.
HB 432 would provide critical funds to sustain and expand evidence-based violence prevention and intervention programs, helping communities across Maryland effectively and proactively respond to alarming increases in violence.
From 2014 to 2016, Maryland’s rate of gun homicides increased by 77% and is now the fifth-highest in the nation. Maryland communities need this funding, and now I need you to call your legislators to tell them how important this funding is to you.
Monday is the last day of the Maryland legislative session. If this critical funding bill is not passed by the Senate, Maryland neighborhoods will be left vulnerable to preventable gun violence. We can’t let that happen. That’s why we need you to call your senators and tell them that they must prioritize and vote YES on HB 432.
Violence intervention programs are proven to reduce rates of violence in our cities. They are important to both public safety and equity. And they’re cost-effective. That’s why it’s so important that you make your voice heard on this issue:
