Tell Gov Hogan we don’t want taxpayers dollars to fund discrimination!

From the Maryland ACLU:

Our taxpayer dollars should go to schools that don’t discriminate against students, especially LGBTQ students and students with disabilities. Public funds should go to public schools.

But once again, Governor Larry Hogan is pushing to divert millions more from the state’s general fund to expand a taxpayer subsidy for private and religious schools.

Stop Governor Hogan from diverting millions from public schools to private and religious schools.

Almost all of the private schools that receive taxpayer subsidies are religious schools. Some “BOOST” schools even have explicit anti-LGBTQ policies.

Anti-discrimination protections for BOOST schools only apply to admission, not retention. So, a student who identifies as LGBTQ can be enrolled and then expelled from the religious school for being gay. Or a student with disabilities could be admitted but then removed because the BOOST school does not provide reasonable accommodations so they can learn. BOOST schools should be required to meet all our state’s nondiscrimination standards, which public schools must follow.

We should fund programs that align with our values. Tell your state legislators to end Maryland’s voucher program for private and religious schools program.
