From the Chesapeake Bay Foundation:
Today, deliberations are starting in Annapolis on three bills that would help protect one of our most valuable natural resources—Maryland’s forests. Forests are the backbone of our communities. They help filter our waters, increase property values, reduce energy costs, provide clean air and wildlife habitat, and improve public health.
But Maryland is losing its forests at an alarming rate. In fact, in 2018 Maryland lost the equivalent of nearly 2,000 football fields of forest to development. We can’t allow this to continue—our forests are too important! Take action now—urge your legislators to protect Maryland’s forests!
This week, your legislators are continuing to attend hearings on three bills that can make tremendous strides in protecting Maryland’s valuable forests. And before they make any decisions, they need to hear from you. Urge them to protect Maryland’s forests!
Forests are the backbone of our communities. They help filter our local waters, increase property values, reduce energy costs, provide clean air and wildlife habitat, and improve public health. The bills before the House and Senate present a comprehensive package that would make tremendous strides in protecting Maryland’s forests. They include commissioning a study of the current state of forest policy, redefining the definition of “no net loss of forest” in the current state policy goal, and addressing several issues related to the Forest Conservation Act’s Fee-In-Lieu program.
We can’t sit on the sidelines as Maryland continues to lose valuable forests at an alarming rate. Take action now—urge your legislators to support this important package of legislation for the sake of Maryland’s forests and waters!
