In June, the immigration detention center in Anne Arundel County was holding 113 men who were imprisoned by ICE officers. Local politicians visited with some of the men detained there, Virginia Representative Breyer said “It was very emotional, very difficult. We spent a long time with two fathers: a father of a 5-year-old daughter and a 7-year-old son who have been separated from them respectively since mid-April and early March. One of the saddest parts is neither one has a lawyer, neither one has an announced date in which they will appear before a judge to have the asylum determination made.” Read more about this inhumane practice in our own county here.
