Father Reunited with Family!
This is an Annapolis story, a story with a happy ending, and a story about why we have to keep fighting for our immigrant families who persevere in spite of all odds against them. The WISE Immigration Huddle along with other outreach groups, both in Anne Arundel County and beyond, are happy to announce the release of Edgar! Edgar and his wife fled Central America and came up to the border in early October. His wife was 8 months pregnant at the time she was released on her own recognizance shortly after spending time in the “icebox,” a room in freezing temperatures where she was forced to stand. Edgar was held for over 4 months, incarcerated in Texas, where he lost over 45 pounds. It took a village of MANY incredible people across several groups to bring this man home to his family. This photo is of Edgar meeting his son for the very first time at Dulles airport last week.
Locally, Annapolis Immigration Justice Network (AIJN) did an unbelievable job of making this reunion a reality for this young family. This is an incredible story of strength and determination against all odds. If you would like to help this family and others in our area, you can make a contribution to: United Church of Christ through their website www.uccannapolis.org.
UCC is AIJN’s fiscal sponsor and allows donations to be tax deductible while AIJN awaits its own 501c3 status.
We hope all will sleep well tonight and are wishing the best to Edgar’s family.
