Ask Senator Reilly to support the Pipeline Water Protection Act S 387B to protect our waterways from fracked gas.
Please vote YES on SB 387, the Pipeline and Water Protection Act. The Pipeline and Water Protection Act would ensure that the Maryland Department of Environment could not waive its duty to do a full water quality review for all natural gas pipelines. Under the Clean Water Act, each state is granted the authority to do a water quality review. Recently, the Maryland Department of Environment waived its right to do this critical review on the Potomac Pipeline.
Maryland is also facing a proposal for 190-mile pipeline on the Eastern Shore. We need to ensure that the Pipeline and Water Protection Act passes this year so that the Maryland Department of Environment does everything in its authority to protect Maryland’s water quality with the proposed DelMarva Pipeline Project.
Adding more urgency to the need to pass the Pipeline and Water Protection Act is the recent Ohio court decision that ruled the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency could not collect fines and compensation for the numerous water violations because they waived their authority to do a water quality review.
Please protect Maryland waterways and pass the Pipeline and Water Protection Act.
