Ask Governor Hogan to Sign Education Reform Funding Legislation
Action: Please take 1 minute to send this email to Governor Hogan asking him to sign SB1030 (Kirwan education legislation), to release funds for the next school year (which has discretion to withhold if he chooses), and to sign SB728 (the bill that requires market place facilitators such as Amazon to automatically collect the Maryland sales taxes, which will be helping to support Kirwan). There is suggested email message to Hogan, which you can modify as you wish at this link from Strong Schools Maryland
send email to Gov Hogan. Please also share to social media and friends.
Details:
Maryland public schools are on the path to becoming world-class, thanks to the passage of SB1030, The Blueprint for Maryland’s Future is based on the Kirwan Commission’s recommendations and provides $1 billion in new funding for Maryland public schools over the next three school years. This legislation provides for an initial investment in the 2019-2020 SY of $255 million new dollars for our public schools. Investments include intensive tutoring to make sure kids can read by 3rd grade, extra supports for schools with concentrated poverty, additional funding to provide special education services, salary increases for teachers, and a strong accountability system including Governor Hogan’s request for an inspector general).
In addition, the General Assembly passed SB728 (aka the Amazon bill) which will require out of state vendors to comply with Maryland tax laws. This money will be used for our public schools in the future.
Now Governor Hogan needs to sign the legislation.
Take action today and ask Governor Hogan to sign SB1030 (the Kirwan legislation), SB728 (the sales tax collection by market place facilitators bill) and to release the funds to the public school districts in the coming school year.
It is up to us to make sure Governor Hogan knows Marylanders from around the state want him to sign The Blueprint for Maryland’s Future and the Amazon bill which ensures funding for public education for future years.
