Maryland Lynching Memorial Unveiled

The first Lynching Memorial in Maryland was unveiled in Anne Arundel County this month at Whitmore Park. Thank you to the Racial Justice Huddle and Connecting the Dots for partnering with the Equal Justice Initiative for this Remembrance and Reconciliation project. The memorial remembers the five (at least) men who were lynched in Anne Arundel County between 1875-1911: John Sims, George Briscoe, Wright Smith, Henry Davis, and King Johnson.

Read more about the memorial here, the Equal Justice Initiative’s partnership with us here, and watch the Heritage Report as Janice Hayes-Williams discusses the memorial with Monica Lindsey and Jennifer Haber.
