Women Indivisible Strong Effective
FROM THE ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY NAACP:
Please join us in our email campaign to encourage the Anne Arundel County Board of Education to support the renaming of the former George Fox Middle School to the Sarah V. Jones Middle School. The reasons for this request are given in the Capital Gazette article by Amaya Madarang at https://www.capitalgazette.com/opinion/columns/ac-ce-column-amaya-madarang-2021430-20210429-jdppegqnyjaqlegm4z4yza77lu-story.html.
This is a name choice that will honor an African American educator who brought excellence to the education and futures of African American students in Anne Arundel county despite segregation. The name of Sarah V. Jones was not included in the “final ten” list of recommended school names, so this is a heavy lift (See more here: https://www.wmar2news.com/news/local-news/second-round-of-voting-on-the-renaming-of-george-fox-middle-school-starts-tuesday-in-anne-arundel-co).
We are asking that you reach out to ALL members of the Board of Education and encourage them to change process and name the school after Sarah V. Jones. The vote will take place on Wednesday morning, so a fast and large email response would be the most effective.
Here is a list of the Board of Education Members and Diane Howell (Executive Assistant to the Anne Arundel County Board of Education) to ask her to reach out to the entire Board. Thank you for your continued support.
Thank you.
